The Youth Hostel couldn’t
take us at half term so we have found this hotel, which
seems to fit the bill for the requested return to this
most magical area in the shadow of the Eiger. The
hotel is 5 minutes walk up the road from the ‘Firstbahn’ the
bubble lift up to the First ski area, a separate area
with many similarities to the Madrisa area at Klosters. For
the main area linked to Wengen the ski bus is probably
worth taking. This area where one can ski or
board directly below the Eiger North Face has some
of the longest blue runs in the Alps. Wengen
is a magical, traffic free resort of great charm. Also
of charm across the deep Lauterbrunnen Valley is Mürren.
One can ski over to Wengen and take the train or journey
round by train from Grindelwald. Its all in on the
lift pass. The Schilthorn, the James Bond mountain
with its revolving restaurant is a must. The
hotel has a range of rooms from double en-suites, not-ensuite
basics through to YH type dormitories. Take your
pick and pay your money.
